Sports enthusiast Odudu Otu from Akwa Ibom won the 2021 Gulder Ultimate Search 2021 edition. He beat three other contestants to become the ultimate man in a hotly contested final last night.
Viewers who have watched this season’s Gulder Ultimate Search: Age of Craftsmanship would likely say that Odudu cut an unassuming figure early until the last part of the show. He didn’t have Damola’s puzzle-solving skills or Damilola’s tact. In fact, he always seemed to be doing enough not to be kicked out while remaining in the shadows. It wasn’t until he won the 14th task that many began to notice him.
But Odudu’s story in Gulder Ultimate Search didn’t start from there. Some would say he got lucky when he entered the jungle as a joker.
But, this wild card became the winner of Gulder Ultimate Search for 2021. Over 20,000 Nigerians applied for this season’s Gulder Ultimate Search regional selection process before those on the long list were sent to the country. Sea School.
In the end, 20 names were shortlisted and 16 of them were confirmed. Odudu was one of the last four and was only confirmed to join the others on the day of the unveiling.
He was a member of the Iroko clan which also had members like Damola, Yankari, Esitima, Tobechukwu, and Gerald, which was considered the strongest clan in the Amorokin camp. So, it seemed difficult for Ododu to stand out. Gerald was predicted as a possible winner due to his performance at the start of the show, but was one of the first to be kicked out. Esitima found three boomerangs and was one of those who reached the top seven. Damola who was also in the same clan as Odudu also reached the final.
It was during the individual tasks that Odudu began to show why he was a worthy winner. It seemed that all the energy, strategy and stamina in him were fully developed. As it looked like the other competitors were starting to tire, he was just getting started and he maintained that level of performance until the end.
In the last episode of the show that aired on DSTV on Boxing Day, Odudu became the winner of the 2021 edition of the Gulder Ultimate Search after finding the chest that contains the secret to the proverbial Akolo’s secret brew.
Odudu returns home with prizes worth 50 million naira, including an SUV as well as a return ticket to Dubai.
