RCMP police dog injured in search

An RCMP service dog was injured during the execution of a search warrant on Friday.

At approximately 11 a.m. on September 3, 2021, RCMP officers from the Steinbach Detachment, Dog Service and Crime Reduction Law Enforcement Support Team (CREST) ​​executed a warrant. search in a rural location of the MR of Hanover. The search warrant was for an investigation into stolen property.

As officers approached a building on the property, an ad og weighing approximately 90 lbs attacked Mack, the Police Dog (PSD). Officers attempted to protect PST Mack, but were unable to remove the attacking dog. In order to prevent further injury to PSD Mack and the officers assisting him, the attacking dog was shot and died on the spot.

PSD Mack was taken to a vet for non-life threatening injuries to his face and shoulder. Two officers sustained minor injuries while trying to protect Mack.

The suspect, a 30-year-old man from the RM of Hanover, was arrested without further incident. Manitoba IUI has been notified.
