Police search for suspects following wave of break-ins at Windward Oahu businesses

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Honolulu police are looking for suspects involved in multiple break and enters on Windward Oahu.

Authorities said two men wearing face masks and hoodies are suspected of robbing as many as six restaurants in the town of Kailua early Tuesday morning. Police said the restaurants include Pieology, Paniolos, Aloha Salads and Mahaloha Burgers, which are located on Hekili Street across from Target.

HPD said the thieves broke through the doors and left with the cash registers.

In a statement, owner Alexander and Baldwin said they were assisting police with the investigation.

Meanwhile, police are also investigating after thieves broke into an ailing Leonard’s Bakery wagon parked at the Windward Mall on Sunday.

Surveillance video shows two robbers using power tools to smash a window and entering the truck around 7:15 p.m. One of them was holding a gun and wearing a bulletproof vest.

Leonard’s said there were two employees in the truck at the time of the theft. Officials said the suspect pointed a gun at the workers and threatened to shoot if they did not cooperate.

Authorities said the thieves then left with an undisclosed sum of money.

The bakery said the workers were not physically injured, but were shaken.

Detectives are investigating whether the same suspects are responsible for the burglaries.

So far, no arrests have been made and investigations are continuing.
