Netflix introduces gamertag-like handles for the gaming world on the OTT platform

Netflix is trying to improve its game windows with new gamertag-like handles. Users can create and display them publicly when playing selected mobile games. These tags will help users identify themselves and invite other users to play the games. The platform will also use these handles to represent users in leaderboards.

Netflix gives the user the ability to create and manage the game handle associated with their Netflix profile. This is similar to creating a gamertag or username on any other gaming platform. Thus, a user’s gamertag nickname must be unique. Netflix verifies the uniqueness of the tag once the user enters it.

The gamertag is a unique public name that the user will use when playing games in the app. However, the profile icon and name associated with that player handle will not be displayed. The game handle can be changed at any time by the user.

Netflix has also made the information option available in the app. By pressing “Learn more” in the Menu, Netflix indicates that the gamertag can be used to invite and play with other members. A member will also be able to check another user’s online status along with the other features mentioned.

According to reports, Netflix has rolled out the gamertag management option since last month for some titles. This includes Into the Breach, Browling Ballers, Heads Up! and Mahjong Solitaire.
