Eugene families invited to online community forums for superintendent search this month

The first forums in the Eugene School District’s search for a permanent superintendent begin this week.

For two years, the district had Cydney Vandercar as acting district superintendent. She was originally appointed for one year (2020-2021), but as the COVID-19 pandemic raged, the Eugene School Board decided it was best to keep her in that role for an additional year to so that she can focus on the urgent needs of the district. within the year and revise the research once things get better.

However, the pandemic continues. So the board’s search for a permanent superintendent is ongoing regardless, in hopes of strong community engagement. Community members are invited to participate in a series of forums through January. They will all take place online and Spanish interpretation and Spanish discussion groups will be provided.

Here are the dates :

  • Thursday 13 Jan, 5-6.30 p.m.

  • Tuesday 18 Jan, 7-8.30 p.m.

  • Thursday 20 January, 5-6.30 p.m.

  • Saturday 22 January, 1-2.30 p.m.

  • Tuesday 25 January, 7-8.30 p.m.

The council is also asking people to complete an online survey to help research, and where people see the district is doing well and areas for improvement. Survey responses will be accepted until 5 p.m. on January 25. This can be found at
