CHIPPEWA FALLS (WQOW) – Who killed Lily Peters?
This is the question asked by our community and concerned citizens across the country. Although local law enforcement did not release any new information as of 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, it is clear they have been busy investigating.
News 18 spoke to Chippewa County Coroner Ron Patten on Tuesday, who said Lily’s body was taken to the Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy in Minnesota. He said the autopsy began Tuesday morning and may not be completed until Wednesday.
When asked why it would take so long, he said it was because they were trying to be very thorough.
In Chippewa Falls, authorities are still at the scene near the Leinenkugel Brewing Company, where Lily’s body was found Monday morning. You can see in this drone image that there are some sheets or tents set up in the woods. It is unclear whether this is to protect privacy or preserve evidence.
The trail authorities were looking for on Monday is still closed on Tuesday. The yellow tape is still in place. Added to this is a smaller area now closed off by red tape. This is where the authorities seem to be concentrating their efforts.
Chippewa Falls Police will hold a press conference Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. We will have this live stream on our Facebook page and on this web story.
