Two men have each been charged with a felony after two guns were discovered inside a vehicle parked on the south campus of Lycée de Canton de Lyon, prompting police and district officials school to cancel the school’s prom as a precaution, authorities said on Sunday.
The men, both 19, have been charged with one count of aggravated illegal use of a weapon – possession of a gun on school grounds, a class felony 3, Western Springs Police said.
The suspects appeared in Cook County Central Court on Sunday and have yet to be identified.
Police were called to the school on Saturday afternoon to report a scuffle following the football game between LTHS and Proviso West High School.
During the investigation, police searched an unoccupied vehicle in the school parking lot and found two handguns under the driver and front passenger seats.
Two suspects have been taken into custody, authorities said.
In a statement on Sunday, the school district said it was working on rescheduling the homecoming dance and will share additional details on Friday.
